Lignocellulosic biomasses like wood or herbaceous biomass still pose a challenging feedstock for process engineers. Due to their recalcitrant structure, it is difficult to disassemble them into their constituent parts in order to valorize them. Within the ReMe-ditaion project, we have to deal with several different lignocellulosic feedstocks – these are reed (harvested from the constructed wetlands) and residues from olive cultivation (olive tree pruning waste) and olive oil production (olive pomace) and cork production (cork tree waste and cork dust). Representative samples of all these biomasses are collected now and ready to be analyzed and pre-treated at Ankara University, in order to find suitable ways for their valorization.
